In Siena there are many interesting museums, suitable for all kinds of visitors.
In the Palazzo Pubblico Museum (Museum of the Town Hall), you can admire magnificent frescos from the Middle Ages to the XIX centuries and a wide collection of paintings and sculptures.
The visit to the Cathedral - which is so rich of artworks to be considered as a museum - is a must for the ones who arrive in Siena: a combination ticket of just 10 euro includes the entrance to the Baptistery, the Opera del Duomo Museum (Museum of the Cathedral), the Crypt, and Sant Bernardino's Oratory.
In front of the cathedral stands Santa Maria della Scala Museum, which once was a hospital built for the pilgrims arriving in town along the "Via Francigena" (Frankish road), while now here is visible the old ward of the hospital, called "Pellegrinaio", and some collections of paintings. Some years ago the Archeological Museum was set up in the underground floor. It includes many finds brought back to light in Siena and its surroundigs.
To the lovers of the Sienese Painting I raccomend visiting the Pinacoteca (Art Gallery) not far from the square of the cathedral, housing a huge collection of painting characterized by the typical "fondo oro" (gonden backgroud).
These are just a few of the most important museums to visit, ask me for further information!
